Nevada

Nevada is located on the Western part of the United States.  It lies to the right of California.  Nevada's capital is Carson City and the biggest city we all know is Las Vegas.  Las Vegas is the city where everybody wants to go to gamble.  The city of Las Vegas celebrated its 100th birthday on May 15, 2005. The event celebrated the May 15, 1905 land auction when 110 acres of land in downtown Las Vegas were auctioned off.  Nevada was the 36th state to become part of the United States.  It become a state on Ocotber 31, 1864.  Nevada has three major industries, they are tourism, mining, and hydro-electrical power.  The driest state in the nation, with an average annual rainfall of only about 7 in., much of Nevada is uninhabited, sagebrush-covered desert. The wettest part of the state receives about 40 in. of precipitation per year, while the driest spot has less than 4 in. per year.  Nevada in Spanish means "snowcapped".
